Today Microsoft have announced the launch of their Windows 7 Release Candidate (RC) to the public, free of charge and able to be used for one year.
Windows 7 RC1 is a “near-final” version of the latest operating system Windows 7 and replaces all previous Beta builds.
Computer enthusiasts, network administrators and developers will find the Release Candidate to be a great way to get a hands-on look at the latest operating system, before its release.
You can freely download the Windows 7 Release candidate from here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/download.aspx
To run this RC you will need at least 1 GHz of processing power, 1GB RAM and at least 16GB free space (honestly, I hope you have at least this already!). You’re also going to need a DirectX 9 Graphics Card with WDDM 1.0 or higher to install the Windows 7 Release Candidate.
In our experience as long as you have 2 GHz and 2GB RAM, you will find the RC very useful and it should perform adequately.
You will be able to download the Windows 7 Release Candidate 1 until the end of July. The RC does not expire till June 1, 2010, giving everyone plenty of time to purchase the new operating system upon release.
So go ahead, download the RC and let us know how it goes, either in the comments section or on our forums!
